His family is poor and his father is an abusive alcoholic. The Cole brothers fill their days by exploring the wilds of Merritt Island, a sparsely developed island. Rocket launches from the Air Force base several miles to the south are a prologue to the larger rockets that will one day send humanity to the moon. As that growing program blossoms, Jessie finds himself fascinated with the rockets and the first men chosen to ride them into the great abyss of space. This series follows Jessie from childhood to old age as he chases his dream of reaching the stars.
