Today, engineers are creating ever-evolving technology to help us travel farther, faster, and more sustainably than ever before.
This book explores the engineering evolution in transportation, from past to present, and the potential engineering transformations of the future. It uncovers how great engineering minds have invented technology to create the wheel, build boats, and later, the steam engine. It explores how those early breakthroughs paved the road to future engineering, including hybrid cars, lightning-fast trains, and awe-inspiring aircraft.
The history of engineering in transportation is explored, from the creation of early rafts and boats through the design of wheeled transportation and modern, sustainable forms of transportation. Big breakthroughs in engineering are explored too, from the first aircraft to superfast modern airplanes. And the evolution in transportation engineering at each stage in human history is discussed, revealing how later engineering was inspired by past discoveries.
The book concludes by showing readers the many exciting careers available in transportation engineering, and how they can become the engineering greats of the future.
