A historic, ground-breaking photographic archive of resilience, survival, and identity. Transcending Yin-yang presents a poignant collection of fine art portraits and intimate stories of thirty Chinese transgender individuals navigating life across various cities and towns in China. Initiated in 2024 by photographer Albus Wang, this comprehensive visual documentary project spans ten distinct Chinese municipalities and rural towns. At its core, this photography book serves as a vital historical archive, preserving the visibility and lived experiences of a marginalized community enduring systematic state suppression. Merging high-impact portraiture with raw personal narratives, Transcending Yin-yang offers an unprecedented, rare glimpse into the quiet bravery of transgender lives in modern China. It is an essential volume for collectors of fine art photography, LGBTQ+ history, and contemporary Asian documentary art.
