Not everyone who smiles at you wants to see you win.
There are some people who befriend you just to sabotage your efforts. Such people try to imitate you, compete silently with you, gossip about you, and demean you because of your success.
In "To Evolve: To Suffer," Jessica Aike speaks the truth about topics that most of us are aware of but never speak about. From more than a decade of real-world experience, online and offline, she explains the roles that envy, insecurities, and secret agendas play in influencing people's interactions and what it truly takes to keep the peace.
This is not a book written out of anger. It is a book written out of clarity. With Aike's honest and personal examples, she helps you see what games people play and how to set limits without feeling guilty or minimizing yourself.
Inside, you'll learn how to:
• Recognise envy for what it is, even when it hides behind "advice," "concern," or "just joking"
• Protect your privacy without feeling like you're doing something wrong
• Understand who truly deserves access to your life, and who doesn't
• Let go of ego and take real responsibility for your own growth
• Stand tall as a confident person without apologising for it
Part personal story, part honest guide. To Evolve: To Suffer is for anyone who is done playing small, anyone learning to grow, protect their peace, and stay true to themselves in a world that rewards pretending.
If you've ever been made to feel guilty for simply doing well, this book will feel like a conversation you've needed for a long time.
Your growth is not the problem. Start protecting it today.About the Author
Jessica Aike is a British Nigerian writer. She was born in Lagos, Nigeria, although she moved to London when she was just two years old, where she now lives. As she says herself, she was born with a pen, a notebook, and a book. This proves how much she loves to read and write fiction and non-fiction books as well as plays.
During her teen years, Jessica used social media to initiate discussions that were often difficult to engage in. In the last ten years, her works have engaged a variety of controversial topics, including child abuse, both sexual and physical, as well as verbal.
"Multiple Faces of Keke" is one of her short stories that have been published in the magazine Down in the Dirt Magazine in February 2024. She was introduced to the world of literature in February 2025 through her book "This Thing in My Head", which received the African Laureate Award for Best Non-Fiction and Literary Excellence in March 2026.
