The kiss of the sea leaves a hunger that can't be fulfilled. Tossed overboard from the pirate ship that holds her mother hostage, Ally Kingfisher is stranded - and alone. Outnumbered by her enemies, the only option is to seek out a friend she wronged, and put things to rights. But the vastness of the ocean holds a power that threatens to pull Ally into its depths once and for all. Haunted by dashed hopes, Pasha finds herself unable to return home to the Birde Isles, with its tainted memories of Ally. Determined to pursue her own family secrets, Pasha decides to silence her heart and find her shoal. Until Ally turns up on the back of a sea monster... When some unexpected allies join them, Ally and Pasha's rescue mission seems set for success. But the pirates have tricks of their own, and ways of breaking the strongest bonds of trust. Still, there's more lurking beneath the waves than pirates or sea monsters. Something ancient - something that has been waiting a long time for the last mermaid to leave the Birde Isles. The Kingsport Chronicles continue with To Brave the Deep, sequel of To Kiss the Sea.
