This is a book about ordinary people in uniform – men and women who set out to do a job they believed in, knowing it might cost them everything. Spanning over three centuries, this meticulously researched chronicle lists, in date order, over 200 murders of police officers in Britain since 1703. From parish constables to modern-day officers, each entry marks a life lost in the line of duty. These were not celebrities or headline-chasers, but public servants who faced danger with quiet resolve. Their stories – often tragic, sometimes forgotten – are brought together by a former member of the Metropolitan Police and Churchill Fellow, whose work honours their sacrifice and reminds us of the risks faced by those who keep the peace. Often unseen, often unthanked, but never forgotten.
