This memoir chronicles my positive experiences with the VA (which goes above and beyond traditional support/treatment), including treatment for my combat service-related disabilities and the many, many therapy sessions for my chronic PTSD. It also describes my other VA benefits: the GI Bill - education benefits, a zero down GI home mortgage, which got us our 1st house, and my outstanding VA healthcare. Last, but certainly not least, it describes my 15+ years of experience as a volunteer at the VA medical center/hospital (a lot of which was with my grand-daughter, Maya). My volunteer experience as an escort (pushing patients in wheel chairs/gurneys) generated wonderful interactions with vets from all service branches spanning from WWII to Afghanistan. The volunteers are giving people who selflessly serve our country by fulfilling our obligations to veterans who served so honorably. The VA certainly is not perfect — but it is VERY good...
