Summer, 1980. Roger Miser is a titan of the music world, a king on his throne. To mark his grand exit, he hosts an opulent farewell festival in the French countryside. But as the lights dazzle and the music plays, something far darker is tuning up - a vengeful killer, driven by secrets only Miser remembers. Nearly thirty years later, celebrated poet Henry Jarrett prepares for a quiet summer residency in Kent. But the echoes of that long-ago festival are rising, and Henry is about to find himself caught in the crossfire of a story that began before he was ever aware of it. A chilling and lyrical follow-on to A Life Called Scarlet, The Unconvinced is a haunting tale of imagination's power, the scars of true love, and the slow-burning fury of revenge.
