Another case in the Phenomenological Detective series by Elizabeth Mostyn with the action taking place in Paris and Alsace. The Paris Jack murders have both shocked and intrigued the French public and baffled the authorities. With a new forensic pathologist providing vital evidence that points to the identity of Paris Jack, Lanier is wondering if he needs to look closer to home for a solution. The involvement of a cabinet minister's daughter in an American cult has made Patrice Lanier's task even more difficult due to the essential splitting of his team. But, with a dramatic singularity in the case, the connections are astounding. The authorities demand urgency in this matter as it is causing unrest within the capital's population. The choice of the victims being expensive call girls and the involvement possibly, of certain 'important' people who may have to be questioned about their predilections and vices. Lanier must tread very carefully so the guilty are found so and the innocent are spared the embarrassment. Dramatic twists and turns abound with the usual dexterity of Mostyn's work-and a final conclusion, as usual, is surprisingly satisfying.
