More than 1,100 women volunteered to be a U.S. WASP (Women's Air Service Pilot) to contribute to World War II. Read about the courageous women who put their lives on the line to do their part in the nation's war effort.
"Clear prose and coherent and thoughtful story lines written from a feminist perspective describe women's contribution to war efforts and explain how military service became one of the foundations of the modern women's movement. . . .Well-chosen period photos of the women who served are a plus, as are the sidebars and maps. These topics are often overlooked for this audience, especially those of Soviet Night Witches. A first purchase for middle school libraries."
