About

A young woman inherits a tiny bookshop, only to discover that her late mother had a very special—some would say magical—knack for recommending customers exactly the right book for their troubles.

When she was growing up Max loved nothing more than spending time in her mum's little bookshop, but her job keeps her so busy that she hasn't visited the bookshop—or her mum—in over a year. Now, after her mum's sudden death, Max has inherited the bookshop and has to fulfil her mum's last wish: that she spend a year working in the shop and helping customers how she always did.

Along the way, Max meets magical creatures who need some literary guidance—a selkie afraid to take back her sealskin and return to the sea, a leprechaun who has lost his gold, a troll who just wants people to see his gentle side. Through helping them, she is able to address her own unsatisfying life and forgive herself for not being with her mum when she died.
