To understand the origins of American democracy is to understand the trials and triumphs of courageous American families and their ancestors. After thirty years of meticulous research into the lineages of two such families, Jack Greeson, Ph.D. presents a compelling narrative on how they laid the foundation for democracy and freedom of religion and in turn shaped the course of national history. Rather than revisit the well-documented stories of prominent politicians and generals of the day, Greeson set his sights on the lives of ordinary people, examining their conflicts and setbacks as they forged ahead to make a home for themselves. A unique saga, The Spirit within us... portrays the struggles of these two families over the course of several generations, offering a deeper appreciation for the American settlers and their ancestors, as well as the hardships of a burgeoning nation. It is a captivating account of the everyday people who built a democracy with freedom of religion, and reminds us of our duty to uphold their legacy.
