This book collects the papers, together with the transcript of a panel discussion, that were the features of a conference held at Louisiana State University in 1985 to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the 'Southern Review.' It offers a a fascinating commentary on various aspects not only of one of the South's most important literary quarterlies but of twentieth-century southern writing in the broad context of the history of modern literature.
