In an era where pastoral ministry faces unprecedented challenges-from cultural shifts and leadership scandals to personal burnout and spiritual warfare-Dr. Kai James Manyeh draws from over four decades of frontline experience to deliver a timeless guide for shepherds of God's flock.
"The Shepherd's Call: The Heart and Practice of Effective Pastoring" is more than a manual; it's a heartfelt manifesto born from the trenches of real ministry in Sierra Leone and beyond. As Founder and General Overseer of Jees Ministries International, Dr. Manyeh blends profound biblical insights, personal anecdotes, and practical wisdom to equip pastors at every stage of their journey.
Beginning with the divine call (Chapter 1), the book establishes spiritual foundations like prayer, Scripture, Holy Spirit empowerment, and character (Chapter 2). It defines effective pastoring through seven marks: calling, heart, doctrine, Spirit-led leadership, integrity, equipping others, and evangelism (Chapter 3).
Delve into the pastor's heart (Chapter 4), the sacrifices required (Chapter 5), and eternal rewards (Chapter 6). Explore qualifications (Chapter 7), preaching with power (Chapters 8 & 11), empathy (Chapter 9), and visitations (Chapter 10).
Practical guidance covers discipleship (Chapter 12), counseling (Chapter 13), family ministry (Chapter 14), leading through trials (Chapter 15), balancing home and church (Chapters 16, 18, 21, 22, 24), marketplace outreach (Chapter 19), rest and renewal (Chapter 20), spiritual warfare (Chapter 23), personal devotion (Chapter 25), mentoring (Chapter 26), and navigating burnout (Chapter 27).
With African contexts woven throughout-addressing resource scarcity, cultural expectations, and revival history-this book speaks to global leaders while honoring indigenous experiences. Endorsed by Rev. Dr. Andrew T. Gbandeh-Mitta, it calls back to Christ-centered pastoring: not platforms or popularity, but people, holiness, and impact.
For novice pastors sensing God's summons, seasoned leaders seeking renewal, seminary students, or lay ministers, this resource rekindles passion, deepens devotion, and empowers leading with knowledge and understanding.
