The book was originally published in the form of a series of pamphlets that were distributed by banks and insurance companies from 1920 to 1924. In 1926, the pamphlets were bound together and published as a book.
In the book, the parables are chronicles by a fictional Babylonian called Arkad, a poor scribe who goes on to become the richest man in Babylon. Arkad's personal finance advice is divided into the "Seven Cures", which detail how a person can generated money and wealth, and "Five Laws of Gold", which talk about how an individual can protect and invest their wealth.
