E.F. Benson's wildly satirical take on the Edwardian English upper class, all six novels in one definitive volume. The books were recently adapted by the BBC into a mini-series starring Sherlock's Mark Gatiss.
The novels center around Ms. Elizabeth Mapp and Emmeline "Lucia" Lucas, two scheming social climbers determined to rise to the top in their local villages. At first they only have to contend with the fickle, flighty upper crust that they're surrounded by, but eventually, after Lucia and her husband move into Ms. Mapp's village, the two women face their greatest challenges, each other.
