Although somewhat neglected now, at the height of his fame Ernest Bramah's mystery tales appeared alongside Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes stories in the Strand Magazine, even occasionally outselling them. First published in 1913, 'The Knight's Cross Signal Problem' was one of his popular tales.
