Soon after real estate agent Mosey Frye closes on Morris House, the new owner discovers a menacing figure lurking in the garden. What begins as a simple snooping incident leads to a chilling find in the tool shed, followed by the discovery of a hidden cellar brimming with dusty old books, an antiquated typewriter, and a table set with playing cards and poker chips. As Chief Gus Olivera delves deeper into the mystery, he uncovers several Spanish colonial paintings stashed behind a bookcase. Sensing a possible connection between the poker game and the stashed artwork, Olivera, with Mosey at his side, plunges into the dark history of the town's most prominent citizenry and unearths secrets that bring a shadowy past to light.
