When photographer Gabriel Finch discovers a door that shouldn't exist in his photographs of an abandoned orphanage, he unknowingly steps into a nightmare decades in the making. The impossible door-charred black-appears only in his developed film, yet somehow connects to the disappearance of his younger brother thirty years ago.
As Gabriel investigates the mysterious door at Ashwick Orphanage, he finds himself drawn into the "Archive Between Frames"-a realm where photography doesn't just capture reality, but shapes it. Here, under the guidance of the enigmatic Lucien, Gabriel is offered an unthinkable opportunity: to travel back in time and prevent one of history's greatest atrocities before it begins.
But altering the past comes with consequences Gabriel could never imagine. His seemingly righteous act creates ripples that transform history into something far more insidious than what he sought to prevent. Now trapped in a reality of his own making, Gabriel must find a way back through the door that brought him here-before it closes forever.
In his riveting story, Jim LaFleur masterfully blends supernatural horror with historical speculation, creating a chilling meditation on the nature of evil and the unintended consequences of playing god. With prose as precisely developed as a darkroom image, LaFleur reveals how the frames we place around morality can blind us to the bigger picture-and how sometimes the greatest monsters are born from our noblest intentions. The Framewalker will haunt you long after you turn the final page, forcing you to question whether some doors are better left unopened.
