Salim Retu enters a world already shaped by defiance. His own path is forged by it. Expelled from school for his activism, he carries a vision of liberation from obscurity to the forefront of a nation's struggle. In a defining moment, he confronts a powerful colonial general with a declaration that will echo across the continent: "We prefer living in poverty with our dignity intact over living in opulence under slavery."But victory comes at a price. The hero who expelled a tyrant finds himself consumed by paranoia, turning the tools of liberation into instruments of oppression. The people who once celebrated him now tremble under his rule, as the promises of a bright future crumble into fear and betrayal. This is the story of a revolution devouring itself, of a nation suspended between its soaring hope and its chilling reality. It traces the tragic arc of a man who, in vanquishing a monstrosity, learned to wear its face.
