THE BESTSELLING AND CONTROVERSIAL BIOGRAPHY
Britain's leading investigative writer and biographer, Tom Bower turns the full beam of his formidable powers on one of the most controversial figures of present day: Mohamed Al Fayed.
Owner of Harrods, bereaved father of Dodi and instigator of the 'cash for questions' sensation, this book was originally published in 1998 to wide acclaim. But with the recent heinous accusations of sexual misconduct coming to light, this new and updated edition will offer a new focus of Tom Bower's trademark acerbic insight on this controversial figure.
'[Tom Bower] is the Inspector Morse of investigative biographers, a fluent, phlegmatic story-teller and a master of intricacies.' Sunday Times
'Given the extreme difficulty of researching a subject like Fayed, Bower deserves full marks for effort and courage... his Fayed is a "fuggin" good read.' Lynn Barber, Daily Telegraph
'A book that displays all the forensic skills he employed in exposing Rowland and Robert Maxwell.' Sunday Times
'...that rare thing - a book by turns so entertaining and alarming that even reading the index is an engrossing experience'. Oliver Burkeman, Guardian TOM BOWER is an investigative historian, broadcaster and journalist, and author of 27 bestselling books encompassing a remarkably wide range of subjects. His most recent books include the No.1 bestselling Revenge, the explosive bestseller, The House of Beckham, the most authoritative and bestselling account of Tony Blair's decade as prime minister and the definitive biographies of Boris Johnson, Jeremy Corbyn and Gordon Brown.
Bower is probably best known for his unvarnished and unauthorised biographies of Britain's most controversial tycoons including Robert Maxwell, Richard Branson, Mohamed al-Fayed, Tiny Rowland, Bernie Ecclestone and Simon Cowell. He lives in London with his wife. The revised and updated biography of the controversial Mohamed Al Fayed from master biographer, Tom Bower When this book was originally published in 1998, it sold over 15,000 copies in Hardback alone and was a Sunday Times bestseller, as well as being received and reviewed brilliantly. Bower is the master of his genre - publishing insightful, impeccably researched and balanced biographies on the world's most controversial figures including Robert Maxwell, Conrad Black, Bernie Ecclestone, Richard Branson and Simon Cowell. Revenge, published by Blink in 2022, was a Sunday Times No.1 bestseller, and has sold over 200,000 copies across all formats - 80,000 copies of the Hardback alone to date. Revised with a new Introduction and new material to bring the story right up to date. Incredibly timely, and we know timing is everything. Bower has already come out in judgment against Fayed, writing in the Sunday Times in September 2024 after the most recent sexual allegations against Fayed came to light, that: 'For decades, all this was known. And yet, Britain's libel laws and a supine establishment allowed the criminal to escape justice. Exposing him now should shame those who knew the truth during his lifetime'. Our focussed PR will put Bower right back into the heart of this conversation.
