Felicia is a successful, introverted architect, working for a prominent downtown Chicago company. This is a book that captures her loneliness in the midst of a life on the upswing. A casual passerby on the street can stir her sexual desires, yet she balks at any kind of real relationship. No one is aware of what lurks beneath the surface of Felicia's tortured façade when she briefly returns time and again to spend a few hours at an old rundown hotel in the poor neighborhood where she grew up. What draws her to it time and time again?

A colleague begins to sense that Felicia is restless and discontented in spite of having the life she always wanted. Enter Dr. Benjamin Lamar Long, a psychiatrist, recommended by Felicia's friend as a possible solution. Felicia willingly embarks on the journey she hopes will give her back a normal life.
