After a near-fatal car crash, Royce Vandeweghe wakes up to find that he's one of the first human patients to undergo a radical new procedure: a full-body transplant. Years later, at his Long Island home, he meets Delta Devlin, a detective looking for a missing hiker. Through her, he learns that his lovely wife, his mother, and his best friend have fed him an elaborate lie about the night of the accident. A neighbor goes missing, then another. Desperate for answers, Royce tracks down the grieving widow of the man whose body he inhabits and whose death he must understand. Out of time and, perhaps, his mind, Royce enters a world of black-market body parts, ""young blood"" transfusion parties, and billionaires bent on living forever. Someone close to him is a killer, and he is Detective Devlin's prime suspect. Both are dead set on finding the truth before someone else vanishes in the East Hampton dunes.
