About
A moving and heartwarming World War I saga. For readers of Catherine Cookson and Dilly Court.
'When I'm the farmer,' began Mairi, and then she stopped, for she would never be the farmer. She was a girl.
Ever since she was nine years old, Mairi McGloughlin has known she wants to be a farmer, but by the law of the land it's her scholarly brother Ian who will someday inherit.
The next best thing might be to marry a farmer, and charming, confident Jack could be the perfect answer. But then there's Robin, her brother's best friend, more a man of books than of the land - and yet there's something about him. . .
But with the outbreak of the Great War, their choices change completely and neither Mairi, Ian or Robin can hope to escape unscathed.
As the world around them changes, only the land and love remain constant. But can it be enough to see them through?
Previously published as Harvest of Courage. Eileen Ramsay grew up in Dumfriesshire. After graduation she went to Washington DC, where she taught in private schools for some years, before moving to California with her Scottish husband. There, she raised two sons, finished her Masters Degree, fell in love with Mexico, and published her first short stories and a Regency novel.
The family returned to Scotland where Eileen continued to teach and write and to serve - at different times - on the committees of The Society of Authors in Scotland, The Scottish Association of Writers and The Romantic Novelists Association. In 2004, her novel SOMEDAY, SOMEWHERE was shortlisted for the Romantic Novel of the Year award. Eileen was Chair of the Romantic Novelists' Association 2015-2017.
Eileen passed away in 2023 at the age of eight-two. As the Great War rages on the continent, can one young woman hold the family farm together? Eileen is a doyenne of saga publishing - this is a completely refreshed title leading up to her brand new war drama THE GI BRIDE in summer 2017 Strong, complex women and evocative Scottish setting The author is the former Chair of the Romantic Novelists' Association A key title in our MEMORY LANE saga publishing programme and reader community This wonderful panoramic novel sweeps you up and carries you along to the end. This book is as unique as it is exquisite. As always, Ramsay's prose is vivid and flowing, and the pages just fly by
