About
Damian Devonish was born in Barbados, a beautiful island nation in the Caribbean, and has lived in Canada for the past 15 years. He has devoted much of his life to ministry, counselling, and theological education. Damian earned his undergraduate degree in Theology from the West Indies Theological College in Trinidad and later completed a Master of Counselling at the University of the West Indies, with studies undertaken in both Barbados and Jamaica.
As a Registered Psychotherapist, experienced in pastoral care and counselling, Damian is committed to helping individuals pursue holistic healing. His work emphasizes the importance of addressing spiritual, emotional, and psychological needs together rather than in isolation. Through this integrative approach, he seeks to support the whole person and guide individuals toward balance and restoration.
Damian practices primarily from a person-centred therapeutic perspective, grounded in the principles of congruence, empathy, and unconditional positive regard. He values authenticity in the counselling relationship, striving to engage clients transparently and without pretense. His approach also emphasizes genuine understanding of each client's experience and a posture of acceptance free from judgment. While rooted in person-centred therapy, he incorporates a range of evidence-based practices, taking an eclectic approach that supports meaningful and lasting change.
In addition to his counselling work, Damian serves as the pastor of Alpha Living Centre, a new church plant dedicated to spiritual growth in couples and families.
Damian has been married to his wife, Cecilia, for 20 years, and together they are raising their three children: Destiny, Dasha, and Caden.
