Student Textbook GED Language Arts Test
This textbook prepares learners for the GED Reasoning Through Language Arts (RLA) test as well as reading and writing requirements for Career and Technical Education (CTE) admission.
The exercises and answer keys in this textbook cover the three main components of the GED Language Arts Test: Reading for Meaning, Identifying and Creating Arguments, and Grammar and Language. The activities also align with the College and Career Readiness (CCR) reading and writing standards.
The textbook is organized into three (3) main sections, sixteen (16) chapters, and forty-four (44) interactive lessons, including one practice test. It applies Bloom's Taxonomy's six levels of learning (Remembering, Understanding, Applying, Analyzing, Evaluating, and Creating) to engage learners in active, rigorous reading tasks that build academic vocabulary, reading comprehension, and critical thinking skills.
Furthermore, the book teaches learners to apply the SQ3R (Survey, Question, Read, Recite, and Review) reading framework to improve their reading comprehension and recall. The reading and writing activities teach and assess the following skills:
• Identifying main ideas and supporting details
• Analyzing characters, events, arguments, and informational texts
• Understanding text structure, organization, and relationships between ideas
• Comparing perspectives, purposes, and tone across texts
• Making inferences and drawing evidence-based conclusions
• Interpreting data, visuals, and informational graphics
• Applying grammar, sentence structure, and language conventions
• Writing clear, organized responses supported by evidence
• Revising and editing writing for clarity, accuracy, and fluency
Using these frameworks, the textbook helps learners move beyond simple WH- questions to complete reading tasks that mimic the rigor of the GED Language Arts Test. It serves as an instructional guide to help students become more active, strategic, and purposeful readers. Through these activities, learners improve comprehension and apply their reading and language skills across academic and workplace settings.
Indeed, this textbook is not just about reading-it's about equipping your students with the academic vocabulary, grammar, writing, and language skills they need to thrive. As they progress through the book, they'll gain valuable insights to navigate the complexities of academic reading and essay writing.
