Have you ever wanted to make a bar of soap that you could hold up and say, I made that? This guide shows you how, from the first safety check to a shelf of cured bars, with no chemistry background needed.
You begin with melt-and-pour, a gentle method that uses a ready-made soap base and needs no lye. You learn to melt, colour, scent and mold your first bars in an afternoon. Then you move on to cold process, where you make soap from oils and lye, with every step explained and every weight worked out for you.
Inside you will find:
A full chapter on safety, so you handle lye with confidence
A clear list of equipment you can gather from your own kitchen
An easy guide to oils, butters, colours, scents and additives
Step-by-step instructions for your first melt-and-pour bar and your first cold process batch
A plain explanation of how a lye calculator works, with the arithmetic shown
Twelve tested recipes, six for each method, from a simple three-oil bar to layered and swirled designs
Help with unmolding, cutting, curing and storing
A symptom-first troubleshooting chapter for the problems every beginner meets
Forty clear illustrations, a glossary, conversion tables and a six-week practice plan
Quantities are given in grams, with temperatures in both Fahrenheit and Celsius, so every recipe can be followed exactly.
