''So Many Doors'' by E. R. Punshon (d. 1956), public domain. The story follows Metropolitan Police Commander Bobby Owen. At first, Bobby is hesitant to look into a personal matter involving a seemingly innocent young woman who has vanished to run away with an untrustworthy man. Prompted by his wife, Olive, Bobby investigates further and discovers that the suspected rogue was previously linked to a knife murder. Bobby's investigation soon leads him to a gruesome new crime scene filled with blood, but completely missing a corpse.
