"Jumping the Spirit" originated from the shamanic culture of the black soil in Liaoyuan, Northeast China. It is a method of communicating with malevolent spirits on behalf of the living and the dead. Official explanations, however, mostly categorize it as feudal superstition-a practice steeped in the mystique of folk legends. While few people today have actually witnessed it, almost everyone has heard of it; it's as if this "thing" isn't all that far from us, yet it doesn't seem particularly close either. This feeling is much like the story I'm about to tell-one that might very well have happened right here, right now, among you and me. It's been some time since this incident occurred, and I hope to record it here to commemorate the various terrifying and eerie experiences that took place during those not-so-distant years, as well as those people who should have remained figures of superstition. So please don't ask me whether this story is true or not, because looking back, even I can't be sure if any of it actually happened...
