From legendary rock photographer Mick Rock, a visual compendium of Rocky Horror Picture Show complete with Rock's behind the scenes photography, including never before seen photos taken during production of the film, interviews with cast members, and a Foreword by writer Richard O'Brian (who also portrayed Riff Raff.)
Richard O'Brien's exaltation of B-movie camp and sexual fluidity is one of the strangest, most-addictive movies ever made. After writing the stage show, O'Brien partnered with Jim Sharman to bring his wacky world onto the big screen. Tanking when it was released, Rocky Horror Picture Show clawed its way out of a cinematic grave through midnight showings in art house theaters, and over decades evolved into a cultural phenomenon. Audiences didn't just watch it, they lived it, making themselves part of the show with props and bawdy call-and-response. The movie has since gone on to have the longest theatrical release in history, grossing nearly $225 million over nearly 50 years.
There, during the 6 weeks of filming was legendary rock photographer Mick Rock, known for his iconic images of David Bowie, Queen, T. Rex, Iggy and the Stooges and Blondie. “I was given the freedom to come and go exactly as I wished in my own time,” says Rock. “I could snap whatever caught my eye, stirred my imagination.” Not only did Mick capture rare images of the filming, he also captured the unique moments and energy from the cast and crew.
For the first time ever, these stunning photographs along with Mick's notes, interviews with cast members, and other production ephemera are brought together in a complete, stunning four-color collection for the millions of fans of Rocky Horror set to publish to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the film's release.
