About
Cora Ravenscroft grew up in a cottage on this estate and served in its kitchen. Now a distant cousin has died, and the whole of it-Hall, mines, and debts-is hers.
Everyone at Ravenscroft expects her to sell. She intends to stay.
Three weeks in, she finds the shortfall in the mine's books. The man who made it is Samuel Hobbs, the manager who has kept the pit alive on a margin that would have killed men under anyone else.
She can dismiss him. She cannot easily replace him. So Cora does what no owner has ever done-she goes down the shaft and learns the work from the men who knew her when she was a scullery girl.
What she finds there is not just a fraud, but a fund hidden to save the widows of the pit from creditors-and a man she cannot afford to lose.
A rags to romance regency romance about a woman who inherits the ground she was born on, and refuses to give it back.
