When a man inadvertently assumes the identity of a Federal Marshal, he's forced to take down a railroad executive in this exhilarating new addition to Ralph Compton's bestselling Gunfighters series.
Federal Deputy Marshal Augustus Yarrow is a top lawman, noted for going undercover to ferret out criminals. He's gone after everyone, from bank robbers and road agents, to corrupt officials and bank presidents. He's the best of the best... until he winds up dead.
Isacc Scott is looking for something better-anything better.
Riding the rails, trying to avoid being caught by the railroad bulls, who will beat him up-if not worse-should they get their hands on him, is getting tiring. But, things get nasty when the man he's sharing a freight car with is shot. With his dying breath, he shoves papers into Ike's hands and tells him to "find out who", right before Ike himself is arrested.
When he's is mysteriously let go, Ike realizes it's because they think he's Marshal Yarrow. Ike wants nothing to do with it. But when, the papers reveal illegal shipments of enough arms and ammunition to start a war, Ike knows he's the only person who can stop the catastrophe from occurring-even if it means becoming a counterfeit lawman.
