Stories about hospital bed shortages and long emergency room waiting times abound, but what is going on inside the system? How do hospitals cope with funding shortages? How are GPs and specialists paid, and for what? Do doctors cover for incompetent colleagues? Why is the debate about private health care so polarized-and uninformed? These and other questions Canadians have about health care will be answered in the medical equivalent of The Naked Investor. Filled with real-life stories, Prognosis will enlighten and enrage those concerned about the state of our system. JOHN LAWRENCE REYNOLDS is the author of almost two dozen non-fiction books, including Bubbles, Bankers and Bailouts, the national bestseller The Naked Investor, and Free Rider: How a Bay Street Whiz Kid Stole and Spent $20 Million, winner of the National Business Book Award. He has also won two Arthur Ellis Awards for best mystery novel, a National Magazine Award, and an Author's Award from the Foundation for the Advancement of Canadian Letters. He lives in Burlington, Ontario.
