Winning his first race in 1930 at the age of sixteen, Britt rode in Australia, India and the United Kingdom where he won nearly all the major events. He was first rider for a succession of Maharajahs and at the peak of his career even rode for the King of England.

After he retired Edgar Britt wrote a racing column for the Sunday Telegraph for 16 years. He has four children from his first marriage and four stepchildren. He lives with his son Peter in Avalon, Sydney.
