About

Originally published in 1967 and out of print for over twenty years, Post Haste is a classic Australian story revived.

Edgar Britt tells the tale of his colourful thirty year career as one of Australia's most successful jockeys. Winning his first race in 1930 at the age of sixteen, Britt rode in Australia, India and the United Kingdom where he won nearly all the major events. He was first rider for a succession of Maharajahs and at the peak of his career even rode for the King of England.

Post Haste is a vivid recollection of the hard yet often exciting lives of apprentices and jockeys over fifty years ago. Britt remembers races, horses, places and personalities in a succession of terrific yarns told with a generous spirit, national pride and loads of good humour.

For this revised edition, the eighty-six-year-old Britt has provided some great new stories and an epilogue describing life and racing forty years after his retirement. After he retired Edgar Britt wrote a racing column for the Sunday Telegraph for 16 years. He has four children from his first marriage and four stepchildren. He lives with his son Peter in Avalon, Sydney.
