Discover the untold yet inspiring story of Amy Beach, musician extraordinaire and the first successful woman composer in America.
From the time she could walk, pitch-perfect Amy Cheney only wanted one thing: to make music. But Mama had all kinds of ideas about what was proper and suitable for a young lady, and they didn't include an all-consuming passion for music. But Amy was nothing if not persistent and she fought long and hard against what was proper for well-brought-up young ladies. Could she learn piano? Please?! Could she have a recital? Just a little, private one? A real piano teacher? A public performance?
Amy begged, pleaded, negotiated, and beseeched, until one day, at sixteen years old, she found herself on the stage of Boston's Music Hall. As her hands touched the piano keys, Amy felt her persistence paying off and her life beginning... as America's first successful woman composer.
