Six children arrive on an island where they meet its mysterious and mouthless inhabitant. Their new guide shows them the rules of the island and gives them each a personal service. The children's realization of their services divides them as they explore their new home and discover, and perceive its secrets. Their choices eventually awaken the hidden force, which formed the world and its laws. The children's special gifts enable them to evade and eventually resist the dark power. They answer destruction with creation, and as the dark force seeks to use their gifts against them the children work together to make a new world and escape to Paradise.
