While Zev Porter was releasing magic from stories, Kiara Glennshire was trying to figure out a way forward.
Kiara's whole life has been spent with Thane, the leader of the group Gemini. He has promised to help her find her missing brother, but recently, things have taken a turn for the worse. Violence, murder, theft, these aren't what Gemini is supposed to be about. Kiara still believes in what she is fighting for, but at what cost?
Kiara makes some risky moves while she tries to figure out what path is the one for her, but things just keep getting worse. Does she continue being an unlikely ally to Zev? Does she try to convince Thane his actions are wrong? And, just what is this strange new magic she has?
Kiara is faced with a decision, betray the man who is like a brother to her, or help this strange boy save magic and Ulterra. She needs to decide soon, or the decision will be made for her. And, she may never see her brother again.
Out of Darkness is a companion novella for From Shadows.
