About
From bestselling author Terry Fallis comes the long-awaited follow-up to The Best Laid Plans and The High Road--a comic spy story that heralds the return of Angus McClintock.
Angus McClintock, accidental Member of Parliament, has won re-election and is now the Minister of State for International Relations--or, in other words, he's the junior global affairs minister. In this new post, he and his trusty Chief of Staff, Daniel Addison, are in London to meet with their international counterparts to discuss the upcoming G8 Summit, which Canada will be hosting this year. Unfortunately, Angus is not responsible for the country's involvement in the summit--that task falls to the actual Global Affairs Minister, not the junior one. What Angus is responsible for is planning a brief meeting between the Prime Minister and the President of Russia, the former head of the KGB.
Everything is going to plan until Daniel receives a cryptic text, from a burner phone, directing him to a pub around the corner. There is some important information that he needs to know, the mysterious texter says--but he must keep the meeting a secret, and must come alone. Naturally, he immediately tells Angus, and of course, Angus tags along to the pub--just for reinforcements. The retired MI6 agent who is waiting for Daniel is not pleased, but there are more pressing things at hand: Chechen separatists are plotting an assassination of the Russian President--and it is going to happen when he is in Ottawa for the G8 Summit, just weeks away. Angus and Daniel have to put a stop to it before it's too late.
In an instant, they are thrown into a race against the clock to uncover the Chechen sleeper cells that are planning the assassination, to thwart their plans, and to ultimately save the Russian President. Along the way, in classic Angus and Daniel style, they have to dodge bitter rivals, runaway Cessnas, and even explosions. This is a madcap adventure with charm and heart that will delight and entertain readers until the very last page. TERRY FALLIS grew up in Toronto and earned an engineering degree from McMaster University. Drawn to politics at an early age, he worked for cabinet ministers at Queen's Park and in Ottawa. His first novel, The Best Laid Plans, began as a podcast, then was self-published, won the Stephen Leacock Medal for Humour, was re-published by McClelland & Stewart to great reviews, was crowned the 2011 winner of CBC's Canada Reads as "the essential Canadian novel of the decade," and became a CBC Television series. His next two novels, The High Road and Up and Down were finalists for the Leacock Medal, and in 2015, he won the prize a second time, for his fourth book, No Relation. A skilled public speaker, Terry Fallis is also co-founder of the public relations agency Thornley Fallis. He lives in Toronto with his wife and two sons, and blogs at www.terryfallis.com.
