After one pint too many, David Calm, a 40-year-old English salesman, makes a reckless vow: he'll visit a country he's never seen with nothing but the clothes on his back and trust fate to provide.
Weeks later, he lands at Los Angeles International Airport carrying no money, phone, credit cards, or contacts. Overwhelmed and questioning his decision, David spots Grace Harrington, an elderly woman struggling to start her Honda. After helping her, he accepts her unexpected offer: a two-week job as her driver and in return, he can stay in the guesthouse at her Beverly Hills estate.
David notices the Honda isn't running as smoothly as it should, and with Grace's permission, he takes the car in for repairs on Santa Monica Boulevard and walks back to the estate.
Days later, David finds Grace unconscious in her home. Before he can help, he's struck from behind.
He wakes up bound to a chair in a warehouse. The morning news is broadcasting his passport photo, identifying him as the prime suspect in Grace's assault and the theft of $4 million in cash and jewelry. By bluffing his captors with the promise of hidden money, David escapes.-but now he's hunted by both the police and the mob.
Seeking refuge, David meets bartender Karen, who recognizes him from the news. After hearing his story, she believes he's innocent and offers him a safe place to stay. As they grow closer, David is arreste4 when he returns to retrieve his abandoned car.
His fortunes change when Randall Jenkins (RJ), Chief Fraud Investigator, posts David's bail. Convinced David has been framed, RJ recruits him to work undercover investigating the Harrington family's insurance fraud operation, which reaches into Las Vegas.
Meanwhile, Grace realizes she has been manipulated into participating in the scams and travels to Las Vegas determined to confront those responsible.
