Old English poems are full of the most enthusiastic interest to students of history, customs, legend, folklore, and art. The poems in this collection meet the needs of those who cannot read the poems in their original form but want to enjoy the heritage of poetry that early English ancestors left. Pagan Poetry comprises 'Widsith,”Deor's Lament,' etc. Christian Poetry includes 'Cædmon's Hymn,”Bede's Death Songhe Fight at Finnsburg.” Poems From the Chronicle contain 'The Battle of Brunnanburg' and 'The Battle of Maldon.'
