Warning! If you're wanting to read about a someone who has climbed Mount Everest barefoot and without oxygen, or discovered a cure for all cancers, or improved on Einstein's theorems, or can help you catch fish or improve your golf swing, or done anything that's in any way remarkable, then put this book straight back on the shelf. It's not for you. However, if you're able to find joy and humour in the ordinary, and wish to read a memoir filled with life, love and laughter, then give it a fly.So just who exactly is Colin Urquhart? A boy who on the day he was born won the Melbourne Cup sweep held at the local abattoir? A boy who grew up in Portland and spent his formative years in Geelong in the 1960s? A boy with an impressionable and overimaginative mind whose provincial world was impacted by global events of the time, from royal visits to the Cuban Missile Crisis? A boy/young man who pursued a harrowed yet hilarious path to true love, guided by an unhealthy infatuation with Gina Lollobrigida who set the benchmark and with a wardrobe that, thankfully, has been left in the 60s? A young man who crossed paths with a plethora of wonderful characters including a landlady obsessed with watching World Championship Wrestling on the TV? A young man who played drums for the Downbeat Syncopators, the greatest band that never was? A nobody with nothing much to say? A man whoâ€"who knowsâ€"had he not spent his formative years so, maybe, just maybe, might have become somebody famous with much to say? There's only one way to find out.
