At the very height of the "feuilletonistic era" and – at the same time – the "Ahrimanic Fall", in the century of the Blood Revolution, which buried idealism for a long time and successfully laid in the dust everything high, everything elitist, I wished to revive on a new basis a Symbolist magazine of the pre-revolutionary type, a magazine for the few, which has nothing to do with "stamp culture"; a magazine initiated by the trends of the Silver Age - the last creatively flourishing era of Russian literature and genuine intellectual culture.
The almanac is entirely modernist and predominantly literary, artistic and philosophical in orientation; he embodies thought not in its frozen and inert forms, but in active and transformative forms. Tradition, according to one apt statement, is the transmission of fire, and true culture does not sprout in the cataloging activity (or rather, simply: empty activity) of modern humanities (say, in the empty activity of institutes of philosophy), which for the most part is nothing more than doomed commentary, initially dead, into oblivion, not in the activities of our traditionalists, which are without tradition, fundamentalists, which are without a foundation, and not in the newness of postmodernity - but in the living words of the living, creatively continuing certain cultural traditions. – To create, and not to echo (like commentators), to be, and not to have (in Fromm's sense).
We are talking about examples of high words that have nothing in common with fiction and feuilleton, these creations of masters of the public, but akin to everything high - from the mythical Orpheus to the last, isolated examples of high in the XX-XXI centuries. What has been said means: not philosophy (now devoid of an aesthetic dimension), not science (not knowing its own origins), not art and not poetry (devoid of philosophical depths, too shallow and shallow often, too often), not mysticism (having forgotten about sober prudence), - but a synthesis: philosophy, science, poetry, art, mysticism.
