The difference between good and evil came easier for children than men.
The Grim Reaper might be more than a story people tell because, eight years ago, a man stole his scythe from him. That action pulled on a thread, connecting the fates of three individuals:
• Lou, a ten-year-old boy studying ethics
• Joby, Lou's guardian and a collector of enchanted objects with a tenuous grasp of his own mind
• The cowardly gray-haired man they have taken captive in order to learn the whereabouts of the scythe
As Lou tries to explain morality to Joby, the hunt for the scythe has him questioning if what they are doing is good, evil, or beyond judgment.
