Book 1 - Mr. Prince and the Righteous Royalty
Seth Francis is a Yucaipa detective who secretly operates as Mr. Prince, a vigilante guided by Gracie's code: protect people, expose corruption, and never let justice become cruelty . After Max's fall, Seth is hunted by the Confessor, a ritualistic killer who turns the city into a stage of terror. The book pushes Seth into the worst moral crisis of his life as the Confessor engineers bombings, psychological games, and finally Emma's death. Seth captures him, but too late to save what mattered most. Penance is the story of Seth keeping the code while losing almost everything for it .
Book 3 - Ghost of Grace
This is where Max becomes the central threat again. He doesn't just linger as memory - he actively haunts Kayla first, appearing to her as "Mr. WhosThatMan," giving her a music box, gaining her trust, visiting her at school and the old foster home, and slowly positioning himself as her protector against the world and against Seth's limits . At the same time, Seth realizes something is deeply wrong as Kayla grows secretive, and the clues point back to Max and the shared trauma of Seth's childhood .
Max is terrifying in Book 3 because he attacks through intimacy instead of open violence: he knows Seth, knows Kayla's loneliness, and tries to shape her into "the next one," essentially a new version of Seth . While Seraph, the Sentinels, and Lucifer's larger curse all matter, the book's emotional and personal antagonist is Max - the ghost of Seth's past returning to corrupt Seth's daughter and force Seth to confront the parts of himself he never escaped .
