Middlemarch by George Eliot, the penname of Mary Ann Evans) tells the story of the fictitious Midlands town of Middlemarch during 1829–32. The epic novel has been called one of the greatest works of English literature. The novel is comprised of four plots, all featuring residents of Middlemarch.
