Perplexing puzzles from the casebook of master sleuth Martin Hewitt Headquartered in a modest office on the Strand, Martin Hewitt, a stout and genial former law clerk turned private investigator, is every bit the deductive equal of Sherlock Holmes. A true master of disguise with a mind as sharp as a freshly stropped straight razor, Hewitt possesses a familiarity with London's night streets and an easy rapport with members of the lower classes. In his capable hands, clues that were missed, misread, or disregarded by the local constabulary are reshaped to find the irrefutable solution to the most unsolvable of mysteries. Narrated by Hewitt's dearest friend, the esteemed journalist Mr. Brett, this collection recounts the great detective's most confounding cases. From a troubling series of robberies that occurred at the same residence over the course of several months to a locked-room "suicide" that was decidedly not self-inflicted, Hewitt bravely matches wits with England's most diabolical criminals. This ebook features a new introduction by Otto Penzler.
