Exceptional leaders make day-to-day work matter. But few leaders are trained to help their employees find purpose in their mundane day-to-day work. From an award-winning author and Georgetownprofessor, a practical guide for leaders to make even the most tedious work more meaningful.
Research shows that most workers would rather have a manager who helps them find meaning in their work than receive a 20% pay increase, but most leaders struggle with the practical "how" of creating fulfillment from boring tasks. And the reality is that employees at every level, especially Gen Z workers who prioritize purpose over pay, are hungry for work that matters right now, not someday in the distant future.
The secret to being the manager that everyone raves about isn't found in grand mission statements or company retreats-it's in transforming the daily grind. The "unsexy" work that fills most employees' days doesn't have to drain motivation and engagement.
Dr. Rachel Pacheco, business school professor and former Chief People Officer, bridges the gap between inspiration and implementation with this research-backed guide. In Manage What Matters, Dr. Pacheco offers leaders a step-by-step framework to infuse even the most tedious work with genuine purpose and meaning, exploring how to:
• Master practical exercises and tools that transform routine tasks into opportunities for growth, connection, and impact • Help team members discover personal significance in their daily responsibilities without changing their job descriptions • Develop the skills to become the manager employees desperately want-one who creates meaning rather than just delegating tasks • Build a team culture where productivity, job satisfaction, and engagement naturally increase through work that is worthy and that matters • Access proven strategies for engaging employees across generations, particularly Gen Z workers, who crave authenticity and purpose
For leaders ready to move beyond surface-level motivation and create lasting engagement, this practical guide provides the concrete tools needed to help every team member find deep satisfaction in their work-starting today, not someday.
