Izaakisan's Cat is a private eye. He lives aboard an old tuna boat on the Californian coast, drives a big blue convertible, and, oh yes, he keeps an Atlas of Things Off the Map. Naturally, he answers the call of a damsel in distress, relieving her of an ancient and scary statuette that should never have come visiting. Then things begin to get strange. Cat prowls into a maze of mystery, mystics, maniacs, artificial intelligence, ancient rituals, cyborgs, crazy love-and a very modern plan for immortality. Everybody seems to want something from Cat. Some of them may even know what he is. Fortunately, Cat has skills. One of them is that he doesn't believe everything he's told. MAKING CAT SENSE is an adventure of pure literary pulp: detective story, love story and metaphysical mystery. A California noir about curiosity, consciousness and desire-plus the difficulty of knowing what the hell is really going on. Izaakisan's Cat is on the case. Maps have limits. Wonder is boundless.
