With nothing left, Lucas arrives in Ember, Colorado-a town that holds the only clue to his past and the parents he lost at a young age. Taken in by Rocko, the compassionate local bar owner, Lucas dedicates himself to saving money for top surgery and building a new life. Everything changes when Veronica walks into the bar. Unbeknownst to Lucas, she is a vampire sanctioned by the council to take his blood. Neither of them realizes that Lucas carries a hidden legacy-his parents were vampire kin, genetically predisposed to being turned. Forced into a vampiric existence against his will, Lucas faces an eternity in a body that can never change. Desperate for answers, he finds an unexpected ally in Jeffrey. As Lucas's transformation upends the balance in the magical community, the prospect of war looms over the vampires. Will Lucas find the strength to embrace his new future and navigate this treacherous world?
