In 1973 police officer Danny Lugo opened the door of a South Central Los Angeles liquor store. Within moments he lay dead, murdered with his own gun.
Ten years later and just off probation, Officer Brian O'Callahan opened a different kind of door-the door of a long-vacant locker in LAPD's most violent division. Peering into the grey metal coffer, Brian never imagined his life would soon go beyond a cop's domain of flashing lights, piercing sirens, and muzzle flashes. By hanging his uniform in Locker 32 Brian had unknowingly accepted a terrible task.
Over the following months Brian demonstrates inexplicable prowess as a police officer and develops a rare alliance with the community. He gains the attention of many, including a vicious criminal who knows how to handle problem cops.
